Uniklinik Aachen (UKA)

The Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen (RWTH Aachen University) is one of the leading technical universities for engineering sciences in the world. RWTH Aachen University connects biomedical research with clinical application through the close cooperation of the medical faculty and the university hospital Uniklinik Aachen (UKA) with the faculties of engineering and natural sciences. The Institute for Biomedical Engineering - Cell Biology (Prof. Dr. Martin Zenke) is studying molecular mechanisms of growth and differentiation of pluripotent stem cells and blood stem cells. The institute initiated and participated in the projects StemCellFactory I and II.

The partner UKA in cooperation with the Institute for Advanced Study in Computational Engineering Science (AICES) in Aachen and the Joint Research Center for Computational Biomedicine, Aachen holds extensive expertise for meta analysis of genomic data. Additionally, in the competence area of cellular engineering, UKA uses CRISPR/ Cas genome editing to produce iPS cells with specific point mutations and deletions for molecular biomedicine and drug development.
